Studio City, CA & Miami, FL – April 17, 2023 – Conga Sports Inc. is known for transforming the economic model of tennis, making it more accessible to everyone by relying on local sponsors instead of tennis players to pay for participation fees. For the inaugural launch of City Slams, a new series of team tennis tournaments for recreational players, Conga Sports has registered four teams.
On March 25th, teams representing Los Angeles, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Studio City competed at the Weddington Golf & Tennis in Studio City. The Pasadena team was eliminated, and the remaining three teams will compete in the next round.
“We are creating a series of entertaining tennis tournaments for players like you and me,” says Rich Neher, Conga Sports CEO, and President. “I call it the ‘tour for the little guy’ because it will have to look and feel of a pro tour or even Davis Cup designed to create renewed excitement in the sport of a lifetime and make players proud representatives for the city they live in.”
City Slams provides an affordable way for tennis teams to participate in matches with a pathway to national championships. Local sponsors cover registration fees for the teams, and the series is designed to become nationwide in a few short years, allowing city teams to fight for the National City Slams title.
“Once we are playing the tournaments in every U.S. state, we will go for more North American expansion and include teams from Mexican and Canadian cities,” adds Neher.
On April 22nd, the second round of City Slams in Southern California will take place at the Santa Monica Tennis Club. One team will be eliminated, and the two winners will play the Finals in May. The eventual SoCal Champion team will play later this year against the Northern California champions for the California State Championship for their city.
