Switzerland-based Plugzit GmbH seeks to become a game-changer in the industry by launching a sustainable product that serves as an easy-to-use alternative to a pool patch repair kit or waterproof tape.

Leading company Plugzit GmbH is out to redefine industry standards after unveiling the world’s first and only easy-to-use alternative to a pool patch repair kit or waterproof tape.

“All above-ground pool owners know that eventually, they will get a hole or a tear in their liner. It could be from a cat’s claw, or a stone flies up from your lawnmower. There are a million ways you can get a hole,” Guy van der Walt, creator of Plugzit, said.

Guy says this is where Plugzit comes in, as it pushes to become a game-changer in the market that’s designed to help people fix holes in soft-sided above-ground pools.

Plugzit GmbH says it takes pride in pushing for a sustainable, quick, and permanent fix for holes as a response to the patches and tapes out there that are bad for the environment.

“They are usually coated with an acrylic or rubber adhesive, which is then mixed with a harmful solvent,” explains Guy. “Throw in some release backing, and ultimately, what we have is utterly unrecyclable. They can be used only once, and sadly, they are a one-way ticket to landfill.”

Guy says experienced pool owners know that most of the time, the patch or tape job doesn’t work for long –– if at all.

Described as “climate killers,” Guy stressed that these products also require pool owners to clean away dirt and grease, use scissors, buy squeegees for bubbles and other tools.

Guy has owned various sized above-ground pools over the years. Last summer, while mowing the lawn during the lockdown, Guy said he heard a loud clang, and water started to gush out of his pool.

“It took me some moments to realize that I had driven over a stone, and it had shot through the side of my pool liner,” Guy shared.

He then raced to the hardware store and bought every glue, tape, and patch. None of them worked 100%.

The incident fueled Guy to come up with a sustainable solution, something that would help pool owners worldwide who have faced similar situations.

He says “quick” fixes that are available on YouTube take hours and sometimes days.

To use Plugzit, pool owners need to operate the gadget by holding onto the base and unscrewing the cap to disassemble.

The base part thread inserts through a hole that, for example, leaks water and reassembles to fix/plug the hole, instantly saving water. Plugzit can be attached, removed, and reused as required.

Plugzit GmbH has a blog section for pool owners. It provides helpful tips and tricks, including how to repair a hole or tear in a soft-sided above-ground pool liner and things homeowners need to know about buying an above-ground pool.
